Annual CMLL/NJPW Tour FantasticaMania In Jeopardy

One of the more notable tours on New Japan’s annual schedule is their joint tour with CMLL FantasticaMania. The event brings some of the best CMLL has to offer to work with New Japan talent in a cross promotional event that allows Japan and others to see some of the lucha promotion’s best talent. However, there is a possibility that this major tour won’t happen this year.

A user on Twitter noted that their schedule for 2021 in January doesn’t feature the event, which is when the tour is usually scheduled. While neither company has acknowledged the cancellation or the absence of the tour, it is currently not scheduled in the usual time of year it runs. There is a chance that the company will run the tour later in the year, but that has yet to be confirmed.

Twitter user RobViper, a well known source for news on lucha, reported that CMLL was still telling talent the tour was on, but logistics surrounding the pandemic seem to make the tour unlikely if not completely impossible at this time. The reason this tour is so important to the CMLL talent is many regulars for the company see the best money they make all year during this event.

While this tour opens the door for New Japan to begin an instant follow up to storylines that begin following Wrestle Kingdom, it is still a popular and important tour in Japan and Mexico, so its absence is worth talking about.
