Matt Jackson Got To Tell Top Flight They No Longer Needed Day Jobs

AEW recently signed Top Flight to a contract. The tag team of 19-year old Daunte Martin and 21-year old Darius Martin have made waves with their first two performances on Dynamite, hanging with The Young Bucks and TH2. Of course, like many other independent wrestlers, the two had day jobs to help sustain the cost of living while working as professional wrestlers.

In an interview with Wrestling Observer Radio, Matt Jackson recalled being able to tell the brothers that they were signed and would have no need to work their day jobs anymore. Top Flight may not have quite understood, but Jackson was happy to explain that pro wrestling had now become their full time and only job.

“Darius tells us, the older brother, I think it was him, because we were like, ‘Look, we’re offering you a deal’ and I don’t think they understood what exactly we were saying. ‘This means that you’re going to make a lot of money and you’re going to have a guaranteed salary and you’re going to have a check every two weeks so,’ and Darius goes, ‘I work at a grocery store.’ I go, ‘Not anymore you don’t buddy,’ and Dante said, the younger brother, he’s 19. He’s working at a gym and the gym, it’s been really tough obviously because of [the] COVID thing and we told him the same. We told him, ‘Well tell them that you no longer need to work there man.’ I said, ‘You guys are set now’ and all it took was them having the courage to just reach out and send me a direct message on Instagram.”

The duo have only just scratched the surface of their potential and they will now have the luxury of being able to hone their craft alongside some of the best in the business. More importantly, the duo will have the advantage of being able to focus on this full time and not worry about scheduling around a second job.
