News On AEW Stars Possibly Working NJPW Wrestle Kingdom

AEW vs. NJPW: Dream Matches (Part Two)

New Japan Pro Wrestling’s big WrestleKingdom show on January 4th and 5th is moving forward and may feature a smaller crowd but the same big matches. Some of those matches may feature talent from All Elite Wrestling, though none of that is confirmed yet.

This is especially affecting Jon Moxley, who is not only AEW World Champion, but holds the IWGP US Title and has yet to defend it during the pandemic. Now it’s being said there are no plans to bring him in for the event.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter has reported that as of Thursday, no AEW star is booked for Wrestle Kingdom, but it is “not locked in stone.” They also noted that any American would have to leave by December 20th to be on the show so they could self-quarantine in time for the shows, so it is still plausible something could be worked out, but nothing is planned just yet.

For Americans going to Japan, to appear on the Tokyo Dome show they have to fly out by 12/20. AEW is not taping on 12/23, as that show will be taped 12/17. They are taping 12/30, so talent would only have to miss that episode since you can work the first day and easily make it back for a live show on 1/6.

The report went on to note that Moxley and Chris Jericho are “the only two key guys” really in consideration for this. As of right now, there are no plans for either but one may assume they may still announce something for Moxley.
