New NXT North American Champion Crowned

Johnny Gargano had promised last week that he would defend his North American Championship, but did not name his opponent. On this week’s edition of NXT, Johnny would make good on his promise. In the middle of the NXT ring Gargano had a spinning wheel with several NXT names on it.

The wheel had several names on it that would be a viable threat to Gargano’s North American Title such as Ciampa, Bronson Reed, Timmy Thatcher and former champion Damien Priest. One name that stuck out like sore thumb, was a NXT unknown, Leon Ruff, the wheel had obviously been rigged with the winner being Leon Ruff.

Gargano did not not treat the NXT newcomer with any respect almost playing with his prey, even taunting former champion Damien Priest at ring side, despite Leon nearly pulling of the win on a couple of occasions. Gargano continued to underestimate his opponent until Ruff pulled off the upset of the century, becoming the new North American champion.

Priest who had been ringside during the match congratulated Leon Ruff, giving his approval by handing the newcomer the championship, unfortunately the belt didn’t fit Ruff.

It would seem that the “Johnny One Defence” is a real thing, are you surprised with Johnny Gargano loosing his belt to NXT newcomer Leon Ruff.
