Chad Gable Offers Opinion On What Made American Alpha Successful

One of the top tag teams to come out of NXT in the era since they were placed on the WWE Network was Chad Gable and Jason Jordan, American Alpha. The two former amateur wrestlers had styles that complimented one another well, and they each had their own in-ring style that added to the flair of the team and made them one of the most popular ones on the black and gold brand during their tenure that brought them the NXT Tag Team Championship and even a run with the WWE Smackdown Tag Team Championship.

One of the reasons the tag team worked so well, according to Chad Gable, was their competition with one another. Speaking with WWE’s After The Bell podcast with Corey Graves, Gable revealed that he felt their competitive drive with one another over Jordan’s then veteran status over the newcomer Gable.

“He makes everything look so easy, but he was struggling. He went through the same thing I did where, I feel like he had some trouble allowing himself to be vulnerable and allowing himself to open up in the kind of way we need to. What I think happened was; they paired us together to see if it would work. We’re both very competitive. I think he was initially, almost bothered by the fact that they think, ‘they’re going to put this new guy with me and they think it’s going to work.’ It forced him to raise his level and open up, and it forced me to say, ‘I’m not gonna let him get way better just because I’m paired with him.’ So, I raised my level. We were competitive with each other to point where it started to work. Our friendship was built out of that competitiveness. Before you know it, we were best friends after like six months. It was meant to be, 100%.”

Gable and Jordan were still at the top of their game before the WWE split the team up with Jordan being put in a storyline where he was revealed to be Kurt Angle’s illegitimate son. Gable has had his own success outside American Alpha, capturing the Raw Tag Team Titles with Robert Roode but you’d be hard pressed to find someone who thinks they were less successful apart than together.
