Rey Mysterio Thinks Cain Velasquez Will Return To WWE

Cain Velasquez started his professional wrestling career with a bang. Getting a featured match at AAA’s Triplemania event that was well regarded by many in August of last year, along with getting a WWE contract and a big money match against Brock Lesnar, it looked like Velasquez would make the successful transition from MMA to the world of professional wrestling.

The upward trajectory of Velasquez’s career took a detour earlier this year when Velaquez was released by the WWE as a part of the COVID-19 budget cuts. Since then, there has been little news on the pro wrestling front for Velasquez, but at least one person doesn’t think he’s done with pro wrestling or the WWE just yet.

In an interview with ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, Rey Mysterio thinks that Cain Velasquez might just return to the WWE sometime soon and he’s all for the return of the former UFC Heavyweight Champion.

“I can’t dig into the exact situation with Cain. I do know for a fact that he’s very dedicated, he’s very passionate about lucha libre and about wrestling, I know this was one of his biggest dreams to be a part of the WWE. I honestly don’t think that he’s gone for good. I think he’s going to make an appearance and a comeback. It’s very hard to put a mask on someone that has created their own history within the UFC like Cain.”

“I would really love and I think that him coming back would be huge.”

Velasquez would obviously draw huge attention to the company if brought back, and surely Vince McMahon would love the ratings and even merchandise money he would bring in. You can watch the interview in full below.
