Exclusive: WCW’s Crowbar Puts Over Independent Wrestlers, Talks Eddie Kingston

Chris Ford, the man behind WCW’s Crowbar and Devon Storm in ECW, recently took time out of his extremely busy schedule to talk a little wrestling with Bodyslam.
Ford has been in the ring with The Who’s who of wrestling, From Taz to Terry Funk to Ric Flair.

Is there one guy you loved working with most around the promotions?

In recent years, I’ve really enjoyed working with Adam Payne who also was my bodyguard, attendant and of course “sommelier” when I wrestled for ROH last year.

Chris then shared a story about how He and Payne first met

There’s really a cool story here – Adam was a patient of mine, who I became friends with and helped to enter this crazy world of pro wrestling. Adam is 6’4, 300+ lbs and an army veteran.  We met when Adam walked into my facility as a patient.  He was a wrestling fan, I wrestled quite a bit locally at the time, so he recognized me. He spent a few weeks in therapy, we spoke wrestling, became friends and I referred him to a local wrestling school and helped to guide him on his journey. Many of his first indy shows were veterans benefit shows, so he was the USA! USA! American baby face and I was the heel. I was able to guide him though our early matches and he learned quick.  He was a natural and picked things up quickly.  He’s crazy strong and very agile for his size.  He soon became my favorite person to work with.  At my age I still like diving to the floor – and I knew this crazy strong and big monster would never drop me – so he really enabled me to turn it up a few clicks when we worked.  I’ve always been a huge fan of tag-team wrestling and I’ve had a great time tagging with Adam as well.

Is there Someone you wish you would have had the chance to get into the ring with?

With all the time I’ve spent on the North East Independent scene, I’ve shared many locker rooms with Eddie Kingston. He’s another great guy, hard worker, grinder who never gave up – His passion and nlove for this crazy business is on par with mine. I like his pace, his style, how he sells, everything.  I think I’d have a lot of fun working with him and it would be memorable. It’s crazy that we haven’t worked yet after all these years being on the east coast.
