Could Khabib vs Gaethje Go The Full Distance?

One of the hottest fights of the year is just around the corner.

Nurmagomedov- 28-0-0. Gaethje- 22-2-0.

Interim lightweight champion Justin “The Highlight” Gaethje, will be taking on the undefeated lightweight champion, Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov. The bout is scheduled to take place at UFC 254 on Fight Island, October 24th.

Gaethje took over as interim champion after beating Tony Ferguson, the last man to be in a position to challenge Khabib.

Gaethje’s stand up game is being praised as possibly the best in the division by fighters and viewers alike. This is the main focal point when discussing Gaethje’s chances against the undefeated champion.

Khabib’s ability to wrestle opponents to the ground and systematically drain them of their energy is unparalleled and his own endurance is impressive. Having said that, he won’t be looking to stand up and throw punches with Gaethje, he would be out-classed and beaten up. However, relying on his ground game may also not be enough to beat Gaethje.

Gaethje is said to have an impressive wrestling defence to go along with his phenomenal punching ability, the idea of a fighter being able to stay on his feet against Khabib is the ‘eyebrow raiser’ coming into this fight.

If Khabib can’t hold him down like the many others before or can’t even take Gaethje down to begin with, his undefeated reign could be in jeopardy.

This fight could very easily go to a judges decision after the five rounds. One fighter is a respected wrestler who has never lost, the other is currently better than he’s ever been and is a very different fighter stylistically.

Is this Gaethje’s moment or will Khabib edge closer to his goal of achieving a record of 30-0-0?
