Who’s Next For Alexander “The Great” In UFC’s Featherweight Division?

UFC’s featherweight division is beginning to take shape with Australia’s Alexander Volkanovski as the champion and former champion Max Holloway now falling down the rankings after two defeats to Alexander “The Great.”

The Australian boasts a solid record of 22-1-0

Currently there are two fights coming up that will have major implications on the division. One has been postponed and the other takes place this Saturday as a main event of UFC Fight Night. The question is; which fight would provide the champion with his next contender?

The postponed fight is going to be a clash between the current number three and number five ranked guys in the division. Zabit is a unique presence in the Octagon and Rodriguez holds a win over a fighter in the other big fight, Chan Sung Jung.

Magomedsharipov(ranked third) and Rodriguez(ranked fifth) will be taking place once Rodriguez’s ankle is cleared, as this fight was meant to take place earlier in the year.

Brian “T-City” Ortega- 14-1-0. “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung- 16-5-0.

Ortega and Jung are two very respected athletes and dangerous fighters, sitting at number two and number four in the rankings, respectively. Jung’s nickname “The Korean Zombie” is arguably more well know than his real name, establishing himself as a threat to any competitor and Ortega’s only lose came at the hands of the former champion, Max Holloway.

As Ortega vs Jung is happening before the Magomedsharipov vs Rodriguez fight, it seems more likely that the winner of this week’s fight will be the next in line for a shot at Volkanovski, who is eager to defend his title and prove himself. However there are still a few big names to consider in this picture, such as; former champion Max Holloway and in-form Calvin Kattar.

Who would you like to see be the next title contender to face Volkanovski?
