Is John Cena Missed In WWE?

John Cena has been off WWE TV since WrestleMania 36. I know we are all used to this by now, as he hasn’t been a full-time performer for some years now, which brings me to my question, do you miss the leader of the Cenation?

The last appearance we had of John was in the Firefly FunHouse match with Bray Wyatt. I think it is fair to say, none of us knew exactly what to expect from it. Was it a classic? Of course not, but it was a fun match all the same.

We have seen less and less of Cena as the years have gone by. He’s been off doing some major Hollywood movies, such as joining the Fast & Furious franchise, and will be seen in the highly anticipated Suicide Squad 2.

Now, I am not sure if it’s Vince or WWE themselves, but they don’t seem to have any faith in the current babyfaces. Who stands out? WWE appears to be relying on the brand itself nowadays more than it does on someone on top to sell tickets.

Cena’s accolades in the ring are well known. 16-time world champion, THE marquee name in WWE for over 10 years. He was a polarizing figure throughout most of those years, young fans loved him, old fans hated that he represented the move to the “PG Era” and John was blamed for that in the eyes of the older fans.

Every time John Cena has made a return, he gets more cheers than anything else. In 2016, Cena would work a renowned feud with AJ Styles culminating in one of the greatest matches in WWE history at the Royal Rumble in 2017 leading to Cena winning his 16th World Title. The feud with AJ took place within a backdrop of SmackDown Live 2016-2017, which has a common perception of being the best WWE main roster output in the past decade.

With that in mind, it has been clear that John has been putting more and more talent over. AJ, Bray, Seth, and Roman all being put over clean. The feud with Roman was rushed in my view, it had a WrestleMania main event written all over it, but they did it when they did it and we witness again why Cena is one of the best of the mic.

Even over the years, it was clear the ones who would chant Cena sucks or boo him, wanted to see him. The anti-Cena merchandise sold by the bucket loads. There is a clear need for someone like Cena in WWE today. Hell, even Kevin Owens misses the man.

I am happy Cena has started to find success elsewhere but simply put – he is missed. The product misses him and I think, all fans, even the ones who will deny it to the hilt, miss him too.
