Exclusive: Zak Bevis Praises AEW Star

WAW Wrestler and trainer Zak Bevis, whose life was depicted in the 2019 Fighting with my Family movie, has praised ‘The American Nightmare’ Cody for making wrestling history.

“He’s a young blood with fresh ideas,” Bevis said. “Cody’s forever had to live in the shadow of his father and his brother. It wasn’t really until he left WWE, got to Japan, got the Bullet Club around him, got the Elite, that’s when they were the freshness in professional wrestling that needed to happen.

“Whether it was to remind people why they loved professional wrestling or whether it was to bring in new fans, I believe there’s always part of wrestling that’s remembered, like when Vince McMahon talked about ruthless aggression and John Cena slapped Kurt Angle, or Wrestlemania 1: I believe Cody fits into that wrestling history.”

He added: “These guys took the world by storm five or six years ago. I believe it’s found a whole new audience, and the more promotions that are producing good content, the better for wrestling in general.”

Like Cody, Bevis (AKA Zak Zodiac), comes from a wrestling family. His mother Saraya Knight, father Ricky Knight, half-brother Roy and sister Paige all work in professional wrestling either for Norwich-based promotion WAW or, in the case of his sister, the WWE. The Knights are often referred to as the British version of the Harts, Von Erich or Rhodes families.

On the possibility of possibly appearing one day on an AEW show, Bevis commented: “Never say never.”
