Next weekend on Saturday, August 8th at UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs Oleinik, hard hitting Derrick Lewis will face off with Aleksei Oleinik in a battle with serious championship ramifications.
Lewis (23-7-0-1) is one of the most exciting knockout artists in the entire heavyweight division although he has had a mixed bag over his last 6 fights, including a very dour victory over Francis Ngannou as well as a last gasp knockout victory over Alexander Volkov before dropping back to back fights to Daniel Cormier & Junior Dos Santos. Currently on a two fight win streak, Lewis is looking to put himself back in the title mix with a victory.
Oleinik (59-13-1) is considered by many as one of the most skilled grapplers amongst the heavyweights & he continues to turn heads with his trademark Ezekiel choke submission. Having gone 2-2 over his last 4 fights but having won his last 2, his most recent was against former Heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum, a win over a former title challenger will certainly elevate him to be amongst the chasing pack.
Also on tap for this event is #11 ranked Middleweight Omari Akhmedov who takes on the challenge of former Middleweight champion & the first man to defeat Anderson Silva in the UFC, Chris Weidmann.
Akhmedov is looking to use Weidmann as a stepping stone towards the top of the Middleweight ladder while Weidmann is hell bent on using the undefeated at Middleweight Akhmedov as his launch pad to get back into the rankings.
Lightweights Beneil Dariush & Scott Holtzman will always throw down at the event. Dariush is looking to build on his 3 fight win streak all of which came with performance of the night bonuses while Holtzman is looking to build on his 2 fight win streak the last of which netted a fight of the night bonus.
UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs Oleinik goes down Saturday, August 8th at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada & will be shown live on ESPN+.
