Popular WWE Superstar Written Off TV Last Night?

Another one bites the dust it seems. Last night on WWE RAW, we saw former NXT Champion Aleister Black making the save for Dominik Mysterio as he was being beaten down by Murphy and Seth Rollins.

Black’s heroic didn’t work out too well for him though, as Murphy brutally attacked his eye with the ring steps. This has been the theme over the last month or so amongst Rollins’ and his cronies, as they also took out Rey Mysterio with the same tactics.

It seems there was more than meets the eye (pun fully intended) to the angle. It may have seemed like a straight up, typical beatdown angle but Dave Meltzer revently reported that there has been backstage talk of writing Aleister Black off of TV over the last few weeks.

Speaking on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer noted that the original plan for the angle was to have Aleister Black written off of TV for an undisclosed period of time:

“I know the original plan was to take him out, I don’t know for how long. That was the original idea is to do an injury angle with Aleister Black which is kinda weird when you’re low on talent.”

While disappointing, this news may be a blessing in disguise for Black when you consider how he is being used right now. A month or two off of TV may be the best thing for him, as recently he has been limited to being a cameo in other people’s stories, which is proving to be detrimental to his character. He should be a cold silent killer but is instead playing the role of everybody’s best friend.

Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT has since gone on to clarify that Vince McMahon is actually very keen on Black and is a big fan of the character, although he has his reservations that the gimmick may be limiting him.
