Asuka Reveals She Wants To Return To NXT & Who She Wants To Fight

Despite some questionable booking at times, Asuka has become one of the most dominant female superstars in WWE history. The current RAW Women’s Champion was the second female Grand Slam winner in WWE history, having also held the top title on both SmackDown and NXT as well as a Womens Tag Team Championship run alongside Kairi Sane. Her impressive last gew years are topped off with victories in the Womens Royal Rumble and Womens Money In The Bank matches.

Despite all of those accolades, most fans still fondly remember the Empress of Tomorrow for her unparalleled 914-day winning streak, which started way back in NXT in 2015 and ended when she lost to Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 34.

Now, Asuka has admitted in an exclusive interview with Metro.co.uk that she would love to one day return to the black and gold brand – which she then described as “her show” – to take on the current crop of rising stars:

“I want to be there, I want to have many matches with NXT superstars. NXT equals Asuka. I will be there and I want to be there.”

The 38-year-old Japanese sensation already has a dream opponent in mind, as she immediately revealed that she has her sights set on another formidable formed NXT Women’s Champion.

“Rhea Ripley. She’s looking good and she looks tough. I want to face Rhea.”

Asuka slso revealed that the Nightmare of NXT would be her dream opponent for a potential second WWE Evolution pay-per-view. These words didn’t go unnoticed by Ripley, as she responded via Twitter:

“Interesting… I’ve always wanted to face @WWEAsuka”

During the media call ahead of this weekend’s WWE Horror Show at Extreme Rules, Asuka – alongside SmackDown’s Number One Announcer Funaki as her translator – revealed that she will be more than happy to give Becky Lynch a title shot after she returns from her pregnancy. Asuka said:

“Well, she is a special opponent for me and once she comes back, I’d love to have a match with her. Actually, while she takes a break I’ll continue to build up experience through matches so I can’t wait to see what happens when we compete.”

Asuka defends the Raw Women’s Title against Sasha Banks on Sunday, 19 July at the Horror Show at Extreme Rules. Watch live from midnight on the WWE Network.
