WWE’s Original SummerSlam Plans For Roman Reigns

WWE were forced into making a huge change to their original WrestleMania 36 plans when Roman Reigns informed them that he would not be working the event. There was a lingering hope that Reigns would be back in time for SummerSlam, and the company had some big matches lined up for The Big Dog.

Braun Strowman was eventually the one to step in and take Roman Reigns’ spot at WrestleMania, winning the Universal Championship from Goldberg. Roman hasn’t been back to work since, which has led Monster Among Men to carry on as Universal Champion, reaching the 100th day of his reign just yesterday. Strowman is currently slated to conclude a three-match program with Bray Wyatt at SummerSlam.

Ringside News has learned what WWE were planning for if Roman Reigns was able to return in time for the biggest party of the summer. There were two options being floated around for Reigns – he was set to to face either Bray Wyatt or Braun Strowman.

Roman Reigns seemingly isn’t coming back in time for those matches to happen anytime soon, and may well be missing for the rest of 2020. This is what led WWE to booking Wyatt vs Strowman, and it is clear to see that the company had run out of options as this feud will have run for 4 months by the time we reach SummerSlam.

Of course, you can never count WWE out from pulling off a massive surprise. There is every chance that Roman could be ready sooner, and WWE drop him back in for a huge ratings boost. Vince McMahon, Bruce Prichard, Kevin Dunn and Roman himself are the only people who know what is in store for the Big Dog’s return.
