Report: Rey Mysterio’s WWE Future

Rey Mysterio was thrown off the Titan Tower during Money In The Bank this year and he also competed on RAW the next day. Seth Rollins then proceeded to brutally attack Mysterio’s eye and he is currently in ”critical condition.” This storyline may be related to the fact his status in WWE is up in the air.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Rey Mysterio’s contract will be expiring in a few months and he has yet to sign a new contract. It is not expected he will part ways with the company, but there is no guarantee he will be staying.

This is the situation with Mysterio. They shot an angle on Raw this week where Rollins took out his eye. Mysterio’s contract is coming due and at least as of a week ago he had not signed a new deal. I don’t expect him to leave but it’s not a lock that he won’t.

It was said that his eye injury was done so that he could do a program with Seth Rollins upon his return. If Mysterio does not come back to WWE, he will be “following the Matt Hardy playbook if he leaves.”

Rey Mysterio signed his contract with an 18-month out clause. The company also did not want him to compete at New Japan Pro Wrestling. Due to their lucrative television contracts at the time, WWE also offered Mysterio a substantial deal as well.

We will have to see what Rey does in the end.
