Vince McMahon Said To Have Instructed Commentators To Bury Tag Team

There have been many stories of Vince McMahon disliking Superstars getting over with the fans organically. Sometimes he simply does not want someone to get over in general.

During his time in WWE, Arn Anderson saw a lot of what went on backstage. On a recent episode of the ARN Show, Anderson talked about The Ascension. They were very successful in NXT but then were called up to the main roster where they were never utilized properly. They would be squashed in various matches.

When they were getting squashed by legends, Vince McMahon apparently told the WWE commentary team to bury them. Anderson could not understand this.

“Why would you take any character that is on our show that the company professes to being the number one wrestling company, or the number one sports entertainment company in the entire world, and put them on our TV show with valuable TV time and bury them, have the announcers bury them?”

McMahon has the last say in everything that goes on in the company. When Anderson was asked if Vince McMahon was the one who decided to bury the team, he said this:

“Sure. Everything character-wise passes by the big chair [Vince McMahon]. If it’s the last place they go, it goes by the big chair for approval. Make no mistake, characters, angles, you name it.”

The Ascension were released from the company earlier this year. We will have to see what they will do next once the COVID-19 outbreak subsides.
