With WrestleMania a little over a month away, tonight was not a good night if you’re a wrestling fan, as the first case of the coronavirus has been confirmed in Tampa Bay. Florida Governor Ron Desantis has issued a public health emergency Sunday evening after two people tested positive for the virus, the first such infections in the state. – per FOX 13 Tampa Bay.

Stephanie McMahon was at a speaking event luncheon with the Tampa Bay Times to promote WrestleMania and had this to say about the coronavirus, “The health and safety of not only our fan base, but also our superstars, really does come first,” said McMahon. “We don’t want to put anyone in a bad situation ever, regardless of the circumstance. “Those are not risks worth taking.” Stephanie McMahon didn’t shoot down the idea of cancelling WrestleMania.

Below is the official news report from FOX 13 Tampa Bay

Could WWE actually have no other alternative but to cancel their biggest show of the year? It just might be just out of WWE’s control at this point, with more and more cases continuing to crop up on a daily basis in the United States. With fans from over sixty- countries scheduled to fly out to the US that week, the risk might be too high. Not only would shutting down WrestleMania affect WWE’s bottom line, but it would also affect all of the other wrestling events scheduled to take place that weekend.

The coronavirus has already caused the cancellations of several other March wrestling events overseas like, New Japan Pro Wrestling from 3/3-3/14. Stardom, Pro Wrestling NOAH, and Dragon Gate Wrestling.

WWE is monitoring the situation very closely according to their Executive Vice President of Special Events, John Saboor. “Given the number of live events that (WWE) does, it’s constantly monitoring global events.”
