WWE Changed Original Plans For US Title At Royal Rumble

Last night’s Royal Rumble Pre-Show Kickoff featured a match between Humberto Carrillo and Andrade for the United States Championship. Andrade successfully defended his title against Carrillo, however it looks as though that wasn’t the original plan.

On the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer talked about the United States Championship match on the Royal Rumble Kickoff. He stated that the original plan was to have Humberto Carrillo win the US Title, but plans changed and that their program is far from being over.

“You know the original booking was that Carrillo was gonna become US Champion. Things kept getting in the way of that you know he was originally supposed to win it from AJ, but you know just things happened and things changed and that’s how things happen and this was supposed to be a lengthy program so they just didn’t want to change the title. Again, I don’t know if you’re booking this, if you’re relegating this match to the preshow even though it’s at the Royal Rumble the reaction might not be good so you’re better off doing it at a television taping.”

We will keep you updated if we hear anything more about WWE’s plans for the United States title, or Humberto Carrillo.
