Eric Bischoff Recalls Sid Vicious Breaking His Leg in WCW

On the latest episode of 83 weeks, Eric Bischoff talked about the moment Sid Vicious broke his leg while in a four corners match for the WCW World Championship against Scott Steiner, Road Warrior Animal, and Jeff Iarrett.

James Laurinaitis was the booker at the time and tried to convince Sid to do this move off the top rope that, Sid wasn’t comfortable with but did it anyways…a big boot of the second rope.

This was at the WCW Sin Pay-Per-View, Sid retired at the time and sued WCW and claimed Laurinaitis forced him to do that move which was out of his comfort zone.

Bischoff said the following about the incident and he remembered where he was at in that moment:

“Oh god, I was sitting backstage at a desk where we had a monitor, and I was watching the show. And it was kind of — I think the first reaction was, we were kind of like numb to it. It was kind of like, ‘Did that really just happen?’ And of course, there’s a replay involved, and by that time it sunk in. And then I don’t want to say I was getting nauseous, because that would be exaggerating my reaction. But I was on the verge of it. It was like, sickening. Kind of like the Joe Theismann leg break in the NFL so many years ago. You see it, and you’ve got to watch it, but you wish you didn’t kind of thing. It’s like a really bad car accident. You know you shouldn’t look at it but you do it anyway. And that’s kind of how I felt. I was a little disgusted with myself for having to look at it two or three times in a row. It was nauseating, really.”
