WWE Reportedly Having Talks With Top Lucha Libre Promotion In Mexico

WWE, the worldwide leader in sports entertainment, that is not just a slogan but a way of life within WWE. The company embarks in global tours numerous times throughout the year, and there has been talks of plans of expanding their NXT brand to other areas of the world (besides UK).

There is also talks of WWE working out new relationships with independent wrestling promotions to bring more content to the WWE Network through a tiered service. It now looks like WWE might have their eyes on one of the top lucha libre promotions in Mexico as a potential partner.

With the recent passing of CMLL owner Paco Alonso, the company is in a transitional period as his widow Sofia Alonso is now in control. According to a report in the latest issue of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, with Sofia now in charge talks have opened up with WWE.

“With Sofia Alonso taking over control of CMLL after Paco Alonso passed away, WWE has had talks with the promotion.”

It is no secret that there is interest within WWE of starting an NXT Latin America brand, as Triple H recently commented on the possibility of expanding south of the border. We will have to wait and see whether or not anything comes from the reported discussions that have opened up between the two parties.

We will keep you updated if we hear anything else about a potential deal between WWE and CMLL or any other independent wrestling promotion.
