Jon Moxley’s First NJPW Championship Match Announced For Dominion

Jon Moxley has made as big of an impact as a person can make upon leaving WWE. The minutes his contract ended with WWE he trended worldwide due to a viral video of Moxley’s arrival. He appeared at the end of AEW’s first ever show Double or Nothing. His first podcast outside of WWE was on Talk is Jericho and broke all of Jericho’s podcasts records, in terms of ratings and downloads. He then went to New Japan Pro Wrestling and won their United States championship in his first match.

The fire is burning as bright as ever and now New Japan just announced Jon’s first challenger.

In the opening match of the evening, new IWGP United States Champion Jon Moxley will be facing Shota Umino in singles action. Mox made the biggest impact possible in his debut at Ryogoku, with a blistering hardcore war against Juice Robinson that went all over the building before the Death Rider captured US gold. Umino has perhaps the very biggest of uphill climbs, but he has taken many of the best to their limits, and a win for the Young Lion could grant Shota his dream of an entry to the G1 Climax.

Young Lion Shota Umino will be the first challenger. Shota, being a young lion isn’t expected to be that much of a challenge for Moxley, but Umino has a chance to compete in NJPW’s annual G1 Climax tournament if he pulls of the win. The match will open the show on June 9th, which is just around the corner.
