WWE Removes Backlash From June Due To Saudi Arabia Event

WWE will be returning to Saudi Arabia in June with another event. It was initially supposed to happen in May but was postponed to June. However, due to this, a certain WWE pay-per-view has now been cancelled.

Dave Meltzer explained on Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE cancelled Backlash in June. They did this so that they could give more focus to their next event in Saudi Arabia.

“[Backlash] it’s off. That was going to be June 16th in San Diego. It’s because they’re going to be in Saudi Arabia and I guess they don’t want to do two pay-per-views just nine days apart. Because Saudi Arabia is June 7th. So they canceled that.”

It was noted the Backlash event was cancelled since WWE wanted to build up only one show in a month. This is interesting since WWE was building up more than one show in a month last year. So whatever their reasoning might be, this year in June we will be getting only one pay-per-view.

It is unclear whether WWE will also cancel the house shows that will take place in June or the NXT TakeOver event set for June 8th in San Jose.
