Why WWE Removed Jim Ross From Commentary

Last week, Jim Ross finished what will more than likely be his final contract in WWE.

Ross will obviously still be doing his podcast but his next adventure is yet to be determined though. Rumors have been swirling that he will likely be heading to AEW.

In Ross’s second time around with WWE, the company sparingly used the legendary commentator.

Mike Johnson was asked recently during PW Insider Elite audio why JR was taken off the commentary team back in 2009. The thought is everything went down hill when Ross got pulled over.

Johnson went on to answer the question:

“They wanted a more youthful voice and they decided that — I believe it was Michael Cole who stepped in at that point — they decided they wanted someone else in the role.”

WWE has had the motive of having a more youthful product for quite sometime. That’s why you have younger people like Byron Saxton, Corey Graves, and Renee Young now to give a more “updated” opinion to apply to the younger audience.

It’s a shame that WWE decided to removed “Good Ole JR” from the broadcasting booth because someone can and will use him properly and the fantastic ability of storytelling he has.
