Kenny Omega Talks About Desiring Creative Control In WWE

After Kenny Omega left NJPW, the biggest question in the wrestling world was whether he would sign with AEW or WWE. In the end, he signed with AEW, despite WWE’s best efforts to sign him, offering him a lucrative contract. However, one thing that WWE couldn’t give him that he really wanted was creative control.

Omega spoke to TSN’s Dan and Jay and said he wanted creative control in WWE in order to express his ideas without restrictions. However, that was impossible in WWE since Vince McMahon has the final word in everything that goes on in the company. Omega did admit that it would have been a good time had he decided to join WWE.

“It just wasn’t for me. I learned a lot of things that helped me take the next step after I left WWE. I had always felt when I had full creative control of my own person and own ideas that I could be the true me and show my full potential.”

“At that stage of my career, probably not. 10 or 12 years later, yeah, now would be a good time. I was actually considering going there earlier in the year, but AEW just seemed right for me. I always get really excited at the idea of having full creative control and just doing new things.”

“To me that’s exciting as a performer. I felt that was probably what was best for me, as of right now.”

At least Kenny has creative control over anything he does in AEW. It also helps that he is an Executive Vice President of the company.

Kenny is scheduled to face Chris Jericho at Double or Nothing, in a rematch to their highly-acclaimed first bout at Wrestle Kingdom last year.
