New Japan Pro Wrestling Views AEW’s Latest Signings As Poaching Talent

It was previously reported that AEW signed former NJPW Tag Team The Best Friends, Chuck Taylor and Trent Beretta.

This came as a surprise to many, especially those within NJPW as the company had plans in place for Beretta after he had verbally agreed to a new deal with the company before backing out and signing with All Elite Wrestling.

On the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed New Japan Pro Wrestling and how they are viewing AEW’s signing of The Best Friends – Chuckie T & Trent Beretta. He stated that NJPW see’s AEW’s most recent acquisitions to basically be “talent poaching.”

Regarding AEW’s signing of Chuckie T & Trent Beretta, Meltzer said:

“With Beretta I guess from their perspective it was that he had agreed to come and then he backed out and they felt that they had a deal with him and AEW poached him because they felt that they had a deal so it’s like it’s viewed differently.”

“Now it’s like how do you do… do you do business with someone who’s taken a lot of your talent? In a sense maybe doing business is the best thing for you.”

New Japan is going through a major transitional period, as many of their top stars have opted not to re-sign with the company and have tested the free agent waters, most choosing to sign with the newly launched All Elite Wrestling.
