MLW Fusion Recap Episode 34: Rush vs. Sammy Guevara, Ace Romero vs. Marko Stunt

Last week on MLW Fusion:  Simon Gotch won his prize fight challenge without much of an actual challenge. Brian Pillman Jr. beat Tommy Dreamer so bad that Teddy Hart had to come in and stop Pillman. The Lucha Bros. had a f’n war against L.A. Park and his son.

Cold Open- Simon Gotch was gonna start talking in a back ally but Tom Lawlor showed up to jump him. Simon hid behind a door and Ricky Martinez showed up to distract Lawlor. Starting off hot!

Jason Cade vs. Teddy Hart w/ Brian Pillman Jr.

  • Jason Cade has a prety good entrance song. MLW doesn’t have many fan friendly songs. Like songs you can sing along to or crowd participation songs.
  • It’s weird that Davey Boy Smith Jr. isn’t with them. He probably had prior commitments but DBS really adds something to the group.
  • Brian is live streaming his entrance on Instagram.
  • It’s crazy how The Hart Foundation are all about disrespecting aspects of the past but respecting other aspects. They cheat to win and are ruthless in their beatdowns. Jason Cade is obviously a heel, which makes Teddy the face. I guess The Hart Foundation are the most tweeners in the company. They can wrestle either heel or face. They are their own.
  • This is a very Teddy Hart match. Big moves, innovation and not much of a story.
  • Jason Cade does his famous grimace face after getting a two count. Pillman Jr. still live streaming.
  • Cade did a leg drop from the top of the guard rail right onto the gym floor. I cringe hard on moves done on the outside without padding.
  • Teddy Hart does so many moves that could be considered a finishing move. Like his innovative offense is nice but all of the moves are so impactful they should actually put someone away. The only way to describe it is that Teddy Hart has no strength and none of his moves really hurt. Which makes him seem like not that smart of a wrestler. Rey Mysterio shows us that special moves work, but only if you do about four or five in a whole match. Teddy over here doing every move as a special move.
  • Teddy finally wins with a top rope canadian destroyer after jumping off the top rope and hitting a canadian destroyer.

And I’m Like… Big ups to Jason Cade for willingly taking those moves. This was a typical Teddy Hart match. Very exciting if it’s new to you. The more Teddy Hart matches you see though, the less special they are.

Konnan sees Salina De La Renta in the back and says he will take the championship off of Low Ki. Then brings the cameras with him to show that he beat up Ricky Martinez with a padlock in a sock.

Ace Romero vs. Marko Stunt

  • HOLY HELL!! I don’t know how deep these taping go because Marko got injured a while back but he has been on every episode. He truly is a special talent and I’m excited for future storylines.
  • Acey BABY!!! I first saw Romero on the House of Hardcore Twitch channel and became a fan instantly. Then he went viral by pouncing a wrestler into the crowd. This will be fun.
  • Romero has a picture in picture promo during his entrance and that aspect of his skills needs to be worked on.
  • Marko legit looks like a child going up against Acey Baby. Marko can’t even get his arms around Romero.
  • The visuals that this match gives off is very impressive.
  • Acey hit a running dropkick on Marko sending Stunt halfway across the ring. If you’ve never seen Ace Romero before. Picture Abduallah The Butcher’s body type. Then dress it up like a normal wrestler in trunks and knee pads. Add some tats and a normal head that can’t fit quarters in the scars. Thats Ace.
  • Romero does a second rope legdrop on the ring apron and boys so big it legit scared me Romero would get injured. He is so athletic and willing to do things he shouldn’t be, but I am afraid for his career when watching him wrestle!
  • Romero has the MOST calloused elbows I’ve ever seen. Like rhinoceros skin.
  • Romero is doing everything he can to keep Marko down but Mr. Fun Size has a heart bigger than his body.
  • Marko has to hulk up and do the “YOU!” just to get his comeback. Marko screwed up his momentum by trying to bodyslam Ace.
  • As Stunt hits some quick high flying maneuvers and gets a nearfall, commentary mention how a dream match is Barrington Hughes vs. Ace Romero.
  • The worst thing to happen to Barringto is Acey Baby. Hughes is a draw because he is ginormous and unstoppable. When you bring in someone just as big, but able to actually do stuff in the ring, it takes away everything that made Hughes special.
  • Huge nearfall with Marko hitting a top rope sunset flip powerbomb on Acey. Romero barely kicked out and then did a Bossman Slam to put Stunt away.

And I’m Like… Marko Stunt matches are like smart Teddy Hart matches. Moves are innovative and the match is high energy, plus because of Marko’s size, every match has a story. The build seems to be Acey vs. Barrington. Which should end with those two being a tag team. Acey is the Ricky and Barrington is the Robert.

A recap on how Shane Strickland is the “fallen golden boy”. MLW says that Strickland is in an intense meeting with Court Bauer. You can hear them arguing through the door. Shane and Court were trading barbs on Twitter but most of the fans could sense that it was a work and not many sites even reported the “altercation”.

Salina and Low Ki cut a promo in the back about how Konnan is a bitch. Ricky shows up spitting blood into a garbage can and Low Ki feigns concern but then tosses his keys to Ricky to go pull the car around. Dick move.

Sammy Guevara vs. Rush

  • Sammy is the AAA cruiserweight champion and is going against the biggest star in CMLL. That’s pretty cool that somehow some way these two companies are working together helping MLW. A beautiful thing.
  • Sammy has a glitchhop theme song that is atrocious. No melody, no nothing.
  • Rush has Black Skinhead by Kanye West as his theme song. HOW?? Why does Sammy have a shit glitch song and then Rush gets Kanye? This should show that any song can be used.
  • This match starts off with the fastest pace. Flips and counters and kicks and leap frogs. Tremendous stuff.
  • Rush took his shirt off to toss it to the crowd but it gets caught in the lighting fixture. Biggest pop of the match.
  • Rush getting tranquillo as fuck right now.
  • The match is a fun watch because you can see how little Rush has to try to control a crowd and all of his moves seem seamless. Guevara appears to be thinking about what he is gonna do next and seems to be trying too hard that it comes of unnatural.
  • Rush powerbombs Guevara on a table and.. I AM THE TABLE! MLW tables seem to be very very hard to break.
  • The fan that brought the blow horn, at first I was really against it. Then I realized that you rarely hear that in American wrestling promotions so it adds something special to MLW. There should be blow horns at every event. Make the company stand out more.
  • Sammy is only able to gain advantages when Rush loss focus, not really what Guevara does. Like, Sammy doesn’ outsmart or wrestle Rush, Rush does this to himself.
  • Looks like Rush uses Soul Glo on his hair.
  • Sammy misses a shooting star press and that spells the end for him as Rush hit s the double underhook piledriver for the win.

And I’m Like… That would have been more impressive if we hadn’t saw Teddy Hart hit many piledrivers during his match. Rush grabs the mic as Rich compares him to Hogan in the 80’s. Rush speaks some swear words during his finishin promo to end the show.
