The Main Reason Why Shane McMahon Won The World Cup

At WWE Crown Jewel, Shane McMahon replaced The Miz in the finals of The World Cup and defeated Dolph Ziggler in order to win the tournament, thus astonishing everyone. But apparently, this was planned long beforehand. The reason for this was for him to undergo a change in character, which WWE deemed necessary.

Dave Meltzer discussed this on Wrestling Observer. This is what he said:

“So the idea is that Shane is going heel and this was — Miz wasn’t hurt. This was all booked to be what it is: the beginning of a Shane McMahon heel turn. You know as far as why you want another hell McMahon authority figure on a show? I guess it’s a response to the declining ratings of SmackDown.”

Meltzer added that it was always the plan and superstars such as Rollins and Mysterio were protected. Rollins lost due to interference by McIntyre, Rey got beat down by Randy after his first match and was weakened.

We will have to wait and see what impact Shane’s change in character will have as a whole.
