Shinsuke Nakamura On His Departure From NJPW For WWE

The Artist Known as Shinsuke Nakamura has seen success in both New Japan Pro Wrestling and WWE as he left NJPW in 2016 and joined WWE in the NXT brand only to become the NXT Champion four months later, and win his first Royal Rumble match.

The King of Strong Style talked about his departure from the Japanese wrestling company to host Lilian Garcia while making an appearance for the Ace Comic Con recently.

Nakamura revealed that he wanted to try other things so he decided to leave NJPW as he got a call from a friend in WWE.

“In Japan, I thought I accomplished everything, So, I tried a lot of things. So around 2015, [I thought] what should I do next? At the time, my friend, who works in WWE, called me. Probably it’s time to challenge next. Then I decide [to join WWE].”

Shinsuke was the IWGP Intercontinental Champion at the time and vacated the title to leave for WWE. He is also a three-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion, and has held the aforementioned Intercontinental title a record five times.
