What’s Driving the Bad Ratings for WWE?

WWE has seen all time low ratings in the past couple weeks from Raw and Smackdown. Raw had the second lowest ratings of all time on May 28th, 2018. The viewership for that episode was 2,495,000; I expected them to do worse than that because of the matches that were advertised.

That Raw wasn’t that great, I gave it a C+ in my weekly Raw review. Smackdown on the other hand has been fantastic the past month, but isn’t getting the viewers for some reason. Smackdown Live has been loaded with talent and great matches. The thing that is really helping Smackdown Live is the main event scene every Tuesday night. The main event for each episode has been amazing and filled with talent, Raw’s main events have been boring tag team matches or boring women’s matches. Smackdown Live has had the main events of Styles vs Bryan, Samoa Joe vs Daniel Bryan vs Big Cass, Nakamura vs Styles, Jeff Hardy vs Styles, and other great matches throughout the past month and a half.

The past Smackdown’s have been filled with great matches and newcomers. The superstar shakeup definitely favored Smackdown Live; bringing in Samoa Joe, Big Cass, The Club, The Bar, Asuka, Jeff Hardy, The Miz, and Sonya/Mandy. All of these superstars have shown up on Smackdown Live in some capacity and have a big role on the show.

Raw got the short end of the stick with the superstar shakeup; Raw got Bobby Roode, Baron Corbin, Mojo, Breezango, Natayla, Jinder Mahal, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Chad Gable, Dolph Ziggler, and The Ascension. All of them are doing good right? Bobby and Corbin are in boring feuds, Mojo doesn’t do anything, Breezango are still jobbers with good comedy, Jinder is now jobbing for the red brand, Owens and Zayn were in boring tag matches and are now in stupid feuds, Ascension are still jobbers, Chad Gable is still losing, and Natayla is in a confusing relationship with Ronda. Only person on this roster that is doing good is Dolph, he has been killing it with Drew. Both of them are getting pushed hard and are making their way to the top.

If you look at the names on Smackdown Live that came over, all of them have big roles on the show. Smackdown is still on the rise because Almas just got started and Sanity hasn’t shown up yet. The reason for the bad ratings it because of the predictability and how boring the feuds are. Smackdown has been killing it but aren’t getting the viewers as of now, I expect those to go up in the next few weeks. On the other hand I expect Raw’s to keep declining because of how boring it is and the talent they have.

Next week Raw announced some matches that will probably get some more viewers in, but it can go either way depending on if people want to tune in. The matches for Raw and Smackdown next week are on our website. Once Raw gets a new Universal Champion and Dean Ambrose comes back, the ratings will rise again.

As of now Raw is filled with poor matches that repeat and boring storylines. Smackdown Live has great matches and good storylines, that will keep them on the rise. Looks like we have a new A show in WWE.
