WWE SmackDown LIVE Results & Recap – May 22nd, 2018
Smackdown Review by Matt Degnan from WWE Talking Points and BodySlam.net:
(Segment 1) MizTV with The New Day: Miz kicks off saying his show ‘Miz and Mrs’ will kickoff after Smackdown on July 24th at 10pm. This segment should be very funny and filled with good stuff. New Day gives Miz a lot of praise about his career and his accomplishments. Miz calls Fortnite “Fortline”, funny moment. New Day throws pancakes at Miz out of shame. Miz vs Big E is announced for RIGHT NOW! There is still no clear person from New Day to compete in the MITB ladder match.
(Segment 2) Big E vs Miz: This match should actually be very good and have some good moments, expect some comedy in it as well. I am also very high on Big E and think he will be a star, also the Miz is getting better. A lot of good action in this match and a great way to kick off Smackdown. The Bar comes out and attacks Kofi and Woods. Miz pins Big E off the distraction after hitting the Skull Crushing. Could see a 6 man tag match next week (New Day vs The Bar and Miz).
(Segment 3) Lana vs Billie Kay: This is another qualifying match for the Women’s MITB ladder match. My pick is Lana since I don’t think they will split the IIconics. I don’t think this match will be very good, but this is a good spot for this match on this Smackdown. Aiden pulls out a Lana Day sign. Lana pins Billie Kay in a very short and quick match, don’t mind that one at all.
(Segment 4) Almas vs Jobber: Don’t have to write too much about this match, we all know what happens during these matches. Almas is going to be an all time great when he is done with WWE, amazing all around superstar. Almas obviously wins this one.
(Segment 5) Styles and Nakamura Face To Face: Nakamura says he will reveal the stipulation of their match at MITB during this segment. Nakamura says it will be a pillow fight as a joke. Styles and Nakamura fight it out afterwards. Good outside action by these 2, shows what they can do in extreme rules situations. Styles vs Nakamura will be a last man standing at MITB. This segment was very good, best one they’ve had.
(Segment 6) The Club vs The Usos: This is a number one contender match for the Smackdown Tag Team Titles. My pick right here is The Club because Usos have had a lot of opportunities and would be boring if they won again. I think this match should be pretty solid with some good spots, I like this match up. No entrances for either team, wow. Good comedy spot before the match that started it off very good with both teams going at each other. Good, quick action in this match keep this good Smackdown going. The Club takes the win after the Magic Killer. Overall pretty solid match.
(Segment 7) Naomi vs Sonya Deville: This match is in a pretty good spot and should actually be a good match, as I said today on my segment of WWE Talking Points. Sonya and Naomi have both been getting better over time and they are good stars in the women’s division. Winner of this match goes onto the Women’s MITB ladder match. My pick for this one is Naomi. This match is pretty good with good strikes and fluent movement. Naomi rolls up Sonya and is going to the Women’s MITB ladder match. This match was pretty good for where it was on the card.
(Segment 8) Jeff Hardy vs Daniel Bryan: The winner of this match goes on to face Samoa Joe next week, then the winner of that match will go on to the Men’s MITB ladder match. This match is going to be very good and I have high hopes for this match. Samoa Joe comes out onto commentary. This match is very good with good tempo. Samoa Joe has been great on commentary, giving praise to both superstars. Both main events from Raw and Smackdown were both very good. Daniel Bryan makes Jeff Hardy tap out and will face Samoa Joe next week for a spot in the Men’s MITB ladder match. Samoa Joe comes in the ring to cut a promo on Daniel Bryan. Great ending to a great Smackdown.
