Update On Rumors That Rusev Has Asked For His Release From WWE

Following the fallout from the announcement of Rusev’s replacement in the Casket Match against The Undertaker at the Greatest Royal Rumble by Chris Jericho.. rumors once again have begun to circulate regarding Rusev once again asking for his release from WWE.

It had been reported last month that Rusev was unhappy with his role within the company despite being tremendously over with the WWE Universe at the current time, which was evident in the massive merchandise sales and numbers as of late. Shortly after reports came out of Rusev’s displeasure with his WWE status, he was removed from the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal and inserted into the United States Title Match on the main card at WrestleMania 34. Which appeared to have been the start of a mild push for Rusev, which even resulted in his announcement for the casket match with The Undertaker.

But over the course of a couple hours during the day on Thursday everything seemed to have changed, and Rusev’s status with the company is once again in question.

Rusev’s status with WWE and the rumors that he has asked for his released again were discussed on the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio and Dave Meltzer commented on the rumors by saying:

“I’ve heard the stories.. I doubt it. I mean, where’s he going to go? And they’re not really good – I don’t know what the timing of his contract is, but if his contact is running out in like a month or so.. Then yeah, I suppose he could do it, but if his contact isn’t running out.. he can ask for his release all he wants. It’s not going to do him much good, because they aren’t going to let him go anywhere.”

Again, this whole situation is very confusing but it does not appear to be a very good one for Rusev at all. It was reported earlier also that Rusev changed his name on his instagram account to reflect his real name. He also added an email address you can contact for booking inquiries.

We will keep you updated as this story continues to develop.
