Backstage News On Women’s Elimination Chamber Match & RAW Women’s Title Plans

On the latest installment of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reported that the original plan for the Women’s Elimination Chamber Match was to include Nia Jax. However, plans changed and she was replaced by Mickie James.

Meltzer went on to explain that the the booking for Asuka vs. Nia Jax should be very interesting. He added that Asuka shouldn’t have her undefeated streak broken before WrestleMania 34, but at the same time it is also not the right time to have Nia Jax lose cleanly to Asuka.

As was reported earlier in the week, Nia Jax is rumored to be challenging Alexa Bliss for the RAW Women’s Championship at WrestleMania, while Asuka is expected to face Charlotte for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at the Event.

It should also be noted that the reason WWE made the announcement that the winner of the Royal Rumble Matches could pick whichever Champion they wished to face at WrestleMania, was so that Asuka could challenge Charlotte. So unless plans have changed, that should still be the direction that they are building towards for WrestleMania.
