A few weeks ago, NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa helped Johnny Gargano defeat Aleiser Black in a steel cage match on NXT. Afterwards, he suggested that Gargano should be given a title shot against Ricochet.
Gargano then went after Ricochet for the past couple of weeks, and now it seems that the match between the two superstars has been made official.
WWE confirmed on their website that Ricochet will be defending his North American title against Gargano and this match will be taking place at the upcoming NXT Takeover: Phoenix event.

- Shayna Baszler (c) vs. Bianca Belair for the NXT Women’s title
- Johnny Gargano vs. Ricochet (c) for the North American championship

NXT Takeover: Phoenix takes place on Saturday, January 26th, the day before Royal Rumble from the Talking Stick Resort Arena.
