How Was Hulk Hogan’s WWE TV Return Received By Company Officials?

WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan recently returned to WWE TV a couple weeks back when he paid tribute to the late “Mean” Gene Okerlund who had just passed away. Hogan’s return was met with a lot of criticism even before he actually appeared on the program.

Hogan’s tribute was seen as a very touching and heartfelt moment, however WWE was still met with blowback after promoting Hulk Hogan merchandise the night of his return. Brad Shepard provided an update as to how Hulk Hogan’s return and tribute came off with WWE Officials backstage and those at WWE Headquarters in Connecticut. Shepard also comments on WWE’s promoting of Hogan’s merch.

Shepard said:

“I talked to a source in #WWE today about Hulk Hogan: His Gene Okerlund tribute on #RAW was very well received at WWE HQ and they felt by the fans too. His new t-shirt sold well that night at Raw but otherwise he hasn’t made much noise in terms of merchandise sales. Part of that is because #WWE has been selective about promoting his stuff. You’ll notice he doesn’t have any fun merchandise – just basic logo stuff. The source notes that could change around WrestleMania season.”
