The MGM Grand In Las Vegas Was Not AEW’s First Choice For Double Or Nothing

It was announced during Tuesday’s All Elite Wrestling Double or Nothing Rally in Jacksonville, Florida outside of TIAA Bank Field that AEW’s debut wrestling event “Double or Nothing” will take place on May 25th, 2019 from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

AEW’s Double or Nothing event was discussed on the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, and Dave Meltzer reported that the MGM Grand was not the original location the company had planned for their debut event.

According to the report, All Elite Wrestling had initially booked the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas as the site for Double or Nothing. But due to the fact that the city’s NHL team the Golden Knights take priority over the venue, if they once again made the playoffs then there is a possibility that AEW could lose the venue to a potential home game.

In addition, it was said that AEW made the decision to instead go with the MGM Grand Garden Arena simply because of the fact they didn’t want to run the risk of the venue to an unexpected hockey game. A similar situation happened a few years back when WWE had booked an event in Denver only to end up losing the venue when the Nuggets made the NBA Playoffs.

It was also mentioned that the cost of running an event in Las Vegas is twenty-four times more expensive than it was for Conrad Thompson when he held Starrcast in Chicago in September of last year.

Hence, it wasn’t worth the risk of any unforeseen scheduling conflicts, as AEW needs to make this a big one and pull it off without any hiccups.
