Update On Jim Ross’ Difficult Situation With NJPW, WWE, And AXS TV

Former WWE Commentator Jim Ross is currently working as part of the New Japan Pro Wrestling commentary team along with Josh Barnett on AXS TV.

It has previously been reported that because of Ross’ deal with WWE that he will not be allowed to sign a new deal with AXS once his current deal is over in 2018. WWE has blocked JR from being able to call any more NJPW tapings for AXS and he will not be able to do commentary for Wrestle Kingdom 13. However, Jim Ross’ WWE deal expires in April of 2019, so this leaves a lot of possibilities as to what he will do next.

Jim Ross’s situation with NJPW and WWE was recently discussed on the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, and Dave Meltzer gave some details about what might happen between JR and NJPW going forward. Basically JR’s pretty much finished with AXS TV, and his future with NJPW is up in the air also.

Regarding Jim Ross, WWE, and NJPW, Meltzer said:

“I believe that Jim Ross will be doing the next, him and Barnette may be doing one more taping and then that will be it. Then he’s going to be gone at least until April. He may be gone, I don’t know. I don’t know who’s going to replace them. Could be Kevin Kelly I suppose, they could just go with the original New Japan commentary instead of doing the studio stuff.”
