When Roman Reigns & WWE Likely Found Out His Leukemia Had Returned

Last night on RAW, Roman Reigns made an emotional announcement when he revealed that was diagnosed with leukemia when he was 22 years old and that his disease has relapsed. Roman then stated that because of this, he was unable to fulfill his duties as WWE Universal Champion so he was relinquishing the belt immediately.

Roman Reigns situation was discussed on the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, and Dave Meltzer mentions that since we aren’t sure exactly what type of leukemia that Roman has it makes it harder to tell what exactly he would be dealing with, or the odds that he will be able to come back. Due to Roman’s young age, being only 33 years old, the odds are believed to be higher that it will resurface again. Meltzer then stated that he would ask around about the exact numbers.

Due to the unusual situation that WWE is now in, the company will have to make some obvious changes storyline wise. We saw turns last night from Elias going babyface and Dean Ambrose going heel, and even last week we saw Braun Strowman turn face again also. Meltzer went on to discuss when Reigns would have received the news that his leukemia had come back.

Regarding Roman Reigns and the news that he has leukemia, Meltzer said:

“Obviously they got the word probably before Friday because he was supposed to be back on the road by Friday so that explains obviously why he wasn’t at the house shows. He was at TV last Monday so the diagnosis should have come in the last 6 days.”

“I know during the day when there were different stories out about him and I was asking around the response was: ‘It will be addressed on the show.’ So I thought it was an injury, I didn’t think it would be this.”
