How Brock Lesnar & Shawn Michaels Could Be Affected By WWE Cancelling Crown Jewel

As we have been reporting, there is a ton of heat on WWE currently regarding their planned Crown Jewel event from Saudi Arabia on November 2nd. The company has come under fire from numerous members of the US Senate, and have been urged to “pause” their relationship with The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The current situation WWE is facing regarding their relationship with Saudi Arabia and the upcoming Crown Jewel PPV was discussed on the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio. Dave Meltzer pointed out the predicament that WWE is in currently due to all the mainstream media attention surrounding Saudi Arabia and the United States, and now WWE’s relationship with The Kingdom.

It has also been reported that WWE has been working on a back-up plan in case they end up cancelling the Crown Jewel event, which is said to be to just move all of the matches – except the World Cup Tournament, to the upcoming Survivor Series PPV instead. While this sounds like a good idea on paper, this might not be an acceptable strategy or move for a couple of the top WWE Superstars being brought in for the Crown Jewel PPV in Saudi Arabia.

But what could be the biggest factor playing into potentially rescheduling the matches is the payday that guys like Shawn Michaels and Brock Lesnar are set to receiving for working the Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia. The money on the table for names like HBK, Lesnar, and others could be a problem as whether or not WWE would match the money if they did the matches outside of Saudi Arabia, or if the Superstars would agree to do the match for their regular rates.

Regarding WWE’s difficult situation surrounding Crown Jewel, Meltzer said:

“The logical thing is, ‘Oh we’re just going to take the matches and put them on Survivor Series because it’s our next pay-per-view.’ But it’s just not that simple especially with Shawn and Brock in particular. Then what do you do?”

“I think Shawn in his position, I think he kind of has to do the match and just, ‘Oh well, oh well,’ right? ‘I’m going to do the match, I’m not going to make the money I expected,’ but he’s close to Triple H and he’s going to understand that.”

“Brock on the other hand, is a very different animal and you know. Is he going to go and do a favor? Or does WWE go to Brock and go — which I don’t see them doing — going like, ‘Okay, all those millions you were going to get for one match, we’re still going to pay you for Survivor Series.’”

It was also brought up how moving the triple threat match for the Universal Title back a few weeks might not be viable for Brock Lesnar as it could potentially interfere with his MMA training schedule. Also, the bumps that he potentially would take during the match could also set him back in his training as well.
