Chavo Guerrero Jr. Reveals Details About Buff Bagwell’s WWE Release And Backstage Heat With JBL & Others

After WWE acquired WCW back in 2001, many former WCW contracts were absorbed by WWE. Most of these Superstars were involved in the WCW/ECW Invasion angle at the time, and one of those Superstars was Buff Bagwell.

Bagwell’s WWE career was a huge failure. Buff notably worked an awful match with Booker T on RAW, the match which was also rumored to be a test match for a potential WCW Show produced by WWE at the time. The match was so bad in fact, that it apparently caused Vince McMahon to drop the idea of a WCW show all together.

Former WCW Star Chavo Guerrero Jr. was already employed and wrestling in WWE by the time the WCW/ECW Invasion angle started, but he apparently remembers the match between Booker T and Buff Bagwell very well. Chavo recently appeared on “Why It Ended”, and he mentioned that the two had wrestled many times before and could tear the house down any night, but on that night on RAW however it just was not working for them.

Chavo Guerrero then began talking about Buff Bagwell and his abrupt WWE release. Chavo shed some light onto why it happened so quickly, and mentioned that Buff apparently had heat with JBL at the time, and that JBL was allegedly very vocal in his displeasure with Buff Bagwell, as were others on the roster to whom Buff apparently rubbed the wrong way.

Regarding Buff Bagwell, Chavo said:

“I think Buff pissed off the wrong people. Bradshaw was out to get him and other people were out to get him and I don’t know the whole story I heard — I don’t know if it’s true or not — I heard his mom called the office asking, ‘Why is my son,’ I don’t know if that’s true or not. I don’t know if it happened.”

“But it’s just you know, if you get those rumors circulating that’s just never good. That’s never really good for you. That’s kind of what happened. I wasn’t in the office I don’t know why they let him go or the situation behind.”

“But Buff was better than that and would have had a place in WWF if they just, the right cards were dealt.”
