Former ROH Champion Reportedly Headed To WWE After Finishing Up With Company This Weekend

It appears as though a top Ring of Honor star and former ROH Champion has officially finished up with the company, according to a report from PWInsider.

Former ROH TV Champion Punishment Martinez dropped the title this past Friday at Ring of Honor’s Death Before Dishonor event in Las Vegas to Jeff Cobb. Martinez was reportedly saying his goodbyes to the ROH Locker Room at Saturday night’s ROH TV tapings, which was also his final scheduled date with Ring of Honor.

With Martinez now officially a free agent, the Wrestling Observer‘s Dave Meltzer is reporting that the former ROH TV Champ is on his way to WWE, with his destination more than likely being NXT. PWInsider’s Mike Johnson has also confirmed this, stating that there has been a lot of interest in Martinez as part of the NXT roster for some time now.

Punishment Martinez first began wrestling back in 2004, he received his training at the Monster Factory in New Jersey. Martinez became a regular member of the ROH roster after an impressive showing in Ring of Honor’s 2016 Top Prospect Tournament, which saw him lose to the eventual winner of the tournament Lio Rush in the semi-finals.

Martinez is also the 2017 Survival of the Fittest winner, earning a future ROH World Title Match in the process. He defeated current ROH World Champion Jay Lethal in the first round of the 3 Night Tournament earning his spot in the Finals. The final round featured a 6-Man Elimination Match to crown the winner which saw Punishment Martinez defeat Flip Gordon, Silas Young, Jonathan Gresham, Shane Taylor and Matt Taven.

Punishment Martinez would eventually capture the ROH TV Title when he defeated Silas Young back in June of this year. Martinez held the title for the remainder of his time with Ring of Honor before dropping the belt this past weekend.

We will keep you updated if we hear anything more regarding Punishment Martinez signing with WWE.
