Female Japanese Wrestling Star Aliya’ Passes Away At The Age Of 45 After Battle With Cancer

Female Japanese Wrestler Aliya’ has passed away at the age of 45 after finally succumbing to her battle with cancer.

Aliya’ was a 20 year veteran of the sport, debuting in 1996 under the name Aya Koyama. She took a hiatus from wrestling in 2001 as she ventured into the world of Mixed Martial Arts. She was 4-9-1 over the course of her 3 year MMA career, actually walking away from the sport riding a two fight win streak.

In 2005 she made her return to JWP and pro wrestling, now wrestling under the name Aliya’. She made her debut in All Japan Pro Wrestling in 2008, and for REINA in 2011. Aliya’ eventually made her way to mexico where she debuted for CMLL in 2014.

ROH Women of Honor Champion Sumie Sakai revealed the news of Aliya’s passing on Sunday via her official twitter account. She also revealed that during Aliya’s retirement show somewhat recently, that she wrestled at the event while having stage IV Cancer.

Sumie Sakai said in remembrance of her friend, “Aliya’ passed away early this morning in Japan. I will never forget about her. Thank you so much for supporting her retirement show. She loves Pro wrestling so much. She was wrestling at her retirement show with stage IV cancer… Rest In Peace あーやさま Love you!!! HUGS!!!”
