What Was The Significance Of Wale’s Appearance On Commentary For 205 Live This Week?

Grammy-nominated artist Wale appeared on this week’s episode of WWE’s 205 Live when he joined the commentary team in Brooklyn.

Wale’s appearance on WWE programming this week is interesting indeed. It has been well documented that Wale has been closely associated with MLW (Major League Wrestling) for years.

MLW is a professional wrestling promotion that original operated from 2002 to 2004, and featured Joey Styles as the host of the shows. The promotion relaunched back in 2017, and began running regularly again in 2018. MLW recently signed a television deal with beIN Sports, their weekly program “Fusion” airs nationally at 8 PM EST on Friday nights.

MLW and Wale have co-promoted the event “WaleMania” for the last 4 years. The annual event has been held during WrestleMania weekend, and features appearances from various wrestling stars & personalites.

It’s been reported that WWE has been making a play as of late towards some talents and backstage staff that work for Major League Wrestling. With that being said, it should be noted that Wale’s appearance on 205 Live this week was not a coincidence. WWE bringing Wale in this week for their SmackDown tapings and his appearance as part of the 205 Live commentary team was seen as play towards MLW talent.

Wale and MLW have already announced plans for WaleMania V. The event is scheduled to take place on Thursday, April 4th, 2019 and will be emanating from the Melrose Ballroom in Queens, NY. The future of the event however could be in jeopardy, if something comes from Tuesday’s appearance and participation in this week’s SmackDown tapings.

You can see WWE’s tweets highlighting Wale’s arrival to the Barclays Center for the SmackDown tapings below.
