Former NWA & WCW Wrestler Chris Champion Passes Away At Age Of 57

Former NWA and WCW Wrestler Chris Champion passed away Wednesday at the age of 57.

Chris Champion wrestled as part of the NWA for Jim Crockett Promotions in the 1980’s, as one half of the tag team the New Breed. Later in his career he returned to WCW with a new look and gimmick, wrestling as Yoshi Kwan.

Chris Champion’s passing was first announced by former USWA and WWF Star Wolfie D, who wrestled as on half of the tag team PG-13 in USWA, and was a member of The Nation of Domination during his short WWF run. Regarding the passing of his friend Chris Champion, Wolfie D said:

“Another close brother has passed away. Chris Champion took me under his wing when I was about 16. I was a huge fan of his as the New Breed growing up. We both loved over the top wrestling gimmicks…we came up with all sorts of stuff from a crash test dummy idea to The Cyberpunks. He was also responsible for suggesting Jamie and I do a white rapper gimmick as a team, which ultimately took us as far as Wrestlemania. He handed us a hubcap at a show one night that he was booking and said, “Wear this around your neck and hit them with it for the finish.” I have a lot of gratitude for Chris and tons of memories. Thank you for everything my friend”

Currently no word has been given concerning the cause of death. However a report from our friends at Ringsidenews suggested that his passing could have been the result of a stroke.

We here at Bodyslam.net would like to extend our deepest condolences to the friends and family of Chris Champion.

We will keep you updated if we hear anything more.
