Jerry Lawler Says He Was Able To Hold His Son Brian’s Hand Until His Heart Stopped

News broke over the weekend that former WWE Superstar Brian Christopher Lawler, son of WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler, had passed away Sunday afternoon after he had attempted to hang himself while he was serving time in jail until he could post bail.

Lawler had been found hanging by those working in the jail Saturday night, CPR was immediately administered until paramedics could arrive. Upon arriving at the hospital the decision was made to keep Brian Christopher on life support until his father Jerry Lawler could return to Tennessee from Raleigh, NC where he was appearing at the Raleigh Supercon, so that he could have the opportunity to say goodbye to his son. Brian Christopher Lawler was pronounced dead around 4:40 PM after the decision was made by family to remove him from life support.

Hardeman County Sheriff John Doolen issued a statement earlier in the week to WMC Action News 5 in Memphis. According to Doolen’s statement, “because the sheriff’s department had no indication that he was suicidal, he was not on suicide watch.”

“Mr. Lawler, resident of Hardeman County, was arrested for third offense DUI, driving on a revoked driver’s license and felony evading arrest.” Sheriff Doolen added that Lawler was placed in a cell by himself because of his “notoriety.”

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation announced that an official investigation has been opened into the death of Brian Christopher Lawler as per the request of the District Attorney’s Office. The investigation is currently ongoing.

Fox 13 in Memphis spoke to Jerry “The King” Lawler recently and Lawler told Fox13 that he takes comfort in the fact that he was able to hold his son’s hand until his heart stopped.

Additionally Jerry Lawler stated that, “there’s more than meets the eye” regarding the investigation surrounding his son Brian’s death.
