Carmella Breaks WWE Record

WWE Superstar Carmella has set a company record, as she has now held the Money in the Briefcase for 281 days.

Carmella captured the Money in the Bank briefcase on June 18th, 2017 at the WWE Money in the Bank PPV in the first-ever Women’s MITB Match. However, on the June 20th, 2017 episode of WWE SmackDown LIVE, Carmella was stripped of her Money in the Bank briefcase by SmackDown GM Daniel Bryan. A second Women’s MITB Match was set for the following week on the June 27th episode of SmackDown LIVE, where Carmella once again was victorious in the match and regained control of the Money in the Bank briefcase.

The record holding onto the briefcase the longest was previously held by WWE Hall of Famer Edge. Edge originally set the record by holding the MITB briefcase for 280 days.

Here are the 4 longest tallies in history for consecutive days as the official holder of the MITB briefcase:

  • 280+ days: Carmella (June 27, 2017 to today)
  • 280 days: Edge (April 3, 2005 to January 8, 2006)
  • 273 days: Seth Rollins (June 29, 2014 to March 29, 2015)
  • 267 days: Dolph Ziggler (July 15, 2012 to April 8, 2013)

It was originally reported by Bodyslam.net’s own Brad Shepard that WWE plans to have Carmella cash in her Money in the Bank briefcase at Sunday’s WrestleMania 34 PPV, and lose. If things transpire as has been reported that would put Carmella’s total run with the MITB at 285 days.
