Rey Mysterio May Have Been Expected At Tuesday’s SmackDown LIVE Tapings

As was previously reported this past Tuesday Night by Sports Illustrated’s Justin Barrasso, that Rey Mysterio was backstage for this week’s SmackDown LIVE tapings from Los Angeles, California. Barrasso’s report also stated that Mysterio was backstage working out details on a deal to return to the WWE and face John Cena at this year’s WrestleMania.

It turned out that Rey Mysterio was not actually backstage this Tuesday for the SmackDown Live tapings in LA. Also, numerous reports have shot down the Barrasso’s rumor that WWE is planning Cena vs. Mysterio at WrestleMania 34.

PWInsider’s Mike John is reporting that that rumblings this past Tuesday backstage at the SmackDown LIVE tapings was that Mysterio was expected to be there for the show in Los Angeles.

“I did hear over the course of the day that Rey was expected in Los Angeles. So it was possible that he was going to go but didn’t go, or it is possible that the rumor was unfounded to begin with. There was a reason we didn’t write about it yesterday, we couldn’t prove that it was correct.”

On the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reported that Rey Mysterio has not yet signed a deal with WWE, but that he is waiting to meet with Triple H to work out the details. If the claims by Mike Johnson are indeed correct, this could mean that there was a meeting planned for Tuesday at SmackDown but for whatever reason parties were not able to make it.
