Backstage Update On Ronda Rousey’s Deal With WWE

In the latest issue of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer indicated that WWE and Ronda Rousey had a contract or an agreement together dating back to last summer, despite what the company has said publicly.

Rousey began training last year in anticipation for a 4 Horsewomen vs. 4 Horsemen feud. WWE even went as far as to film an angle teasing the feud at last summer’s Mae Young Classic. Eventually WWE made the decision to drop the planned feud due to creative reasons.

Another indication that there was a deal in place already between Ronda Rousey and WWE before the “official” announcement was that her merchandise was already being sold at WWE Live Events. Meltzer went on to add that while Rousey and WWE may have had an agreement in place already that there was a chance that Rousey still hadn’t signed the “long-form” contract yet.

“At the same time, since the company is marketing Rousey’s contract signing for its Elimination Chamber PPV in Las Vegas on 2/25, they can’t outright say she’s signed, and it’s possible the long-form contract hasn’t been completely signed.”
