After we saw female wrestlers from NXT called up to the main roster on both RAW and SmackDown Live two weeks ago, it led many to begin speculating that WWE was leaning towards announcing a Women’s Royal Rumble Match. However, this in fact may not be the case at all.
Dave Meltzer reported in the recent issue of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the reason these women were called up to the main roster was due to the current Women’s scene on both RAW and SmackDown being stale. He said that this was done to shake things up, that it all had to do with seeing the same seven or eight women being recycled through the same matches week in, and week out.
“The real reason for all the women call-ups is just that the feeling was with the same seven or eight women on each brand being featured. You’ve pretty much burned through most of the match-ups, and there had become a “sameness” to the women’s divisions, and this would shake things up.” explained Meltzer.
